Supporting women affected by domestic violence
Woman's Trust is a mental health and support service for women affected by Domestic Violence.
We are here to listen and to support you. We offer one-to-one counselling, weekly support groups and self-development workshops for women.
Counselling sessions offer a time to explore feelings and talk through difficulties in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
Counsellors are professionally trained in giving specialist support to help women cope when they are feeling depressed, bad about themselves or confused and unsure of how to deal with what is happening in their life. All Woman’s Trust counsellors are women. Woman’s Trust counselling provides time to talk in confidence about what is happening in your life with another woman who is aware of the kind of issues that may be troubling you.
Working and volunteer opportunities
Volunteer Counsellor
Placements are available at Woman's Trust in East and West London and Barking & Dagenham for students who are studying counselling or therapy. Intakes are scheduled about 2-3 times per year.Our requirements are that counsellors need to be in personal therapy for 1 year minimum and their second year of a Diploma course and have one year of experience of working with clients (30-40 supervised client hours or equivalent experience) . Counsellors will need to work following the Person-Centred/Humanistic approach.
We are always interested in counsellors who have a commitment to this area of work. Woman's Trust has an application process for counsellors interested in placements - counsellors are able to work at different times including some evenings and weekends. Please note: because of the needs of women using our service the minimum commitment is 4 clients per week. Successful candidates will also need to attend the three day induction course.
The deadline for the application is Friday the 8th June 2012; Interviews will commence on the week of the 18th June 2012 and the training dates are 45h, 5th and 6th July 2012. Section 7.2(E) of the Sex Discrimination Act applies.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank all our supporters who donated during the Big Give – Christmas Challenge last week, we were able to raise £3000 in total - well done!
We also would like to “THANK YOU ALL” for all the varied support that you have given to Woman’s Trust this year, including participation in our events, volunteering and financial support as well as awareness raising of Domestic Violence and other general support. All of it has helped towards making a great difference for women experiencing domestic violence.
