Woman's Trust Fundraising Event

5/10 km run/walk + 1 hour yoga + coffee and cake

Victoria Park

Sunday 3rd October 2010

Your support would be very much appreciated.

Woman’s Trust provides counselling and advocacy services to help women affected by domestic violence and abuse.Two women in the UK every week are killed by their partners. One in four women has been affected by domestic violence. It is the most common cause of depression and other mental health difficulties in women. And its effects are felt by children and whole families. Woman’s Trust is urgently raising funds in order to be able to continue and extend the work it does with affected women.

The run/walk will cover the perimeter of Victoria Park, East London and will start promptly at 10.00 am. There will be a starting fee of £10 and although, not a requirement it would be wonderful if runners could seek sponsorship for completion of the run/walk. You are welcome also to only participate in the Yoga Session which will start at 11.30 am at the Superfit facilieties.

We are grateful to Superfit who is supporting us to organise this event. If you would like to take part please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or call 020 7034 0303 by Friday, 30th September .

January 2010

Woman's Trust is a medium-sized women-only charity (turnover around £500,000 pa) providing high quality services across London to enable women affected by domestic violence to rebuild their lives. We are highly regarded by our users, and by other agencies working alongside us in the field.

Our vision:
A world where all women affected by domestic violence have ready access to adequate and appropriate support.

Our mission:
To provide women-only, client-led services supporting and empowering women affected by domestic violence and abuse

About Woman's Trust
Woman's Trust was formed in 1995 to address the substantial gap in domestic violence (DV) service provision. Acknowledging DV and mental health as interlocking issues, the charity focuses on these two topics. The charity offers practical and emotional support to up to 1,800 women per year. We support women via our integrated counselling, support and advocacy services, which are offered in a variety of languages, by workers with extensive DV counselling experience.
We have a dynamic, committed Board, and are now planning to enhance our effectiveness by recruiting enthusiastic new trustees.

Essential qualities:

  • Commitment to the Woman's Trust ethos and client-led approach;
  • The ability to provide constructive and pragmatic advice and support, rooted in relevant experience;
  • The ability to work as a part of team;
  • Sufficient time available to attend Management Committee meetings twice a quarter, to engage in one sub-committee, and to comment in areas of own expertise (at least 8 hours per month)
  • Significant knowledge and experience of at least one of the following
    • Domestic violence issues, counselling/psychotherapy;
    • Fundraising
    • Legal, especially charity and/or employment law
